Philippe Coutinho insists he is ready to tackle the challenge of helping Liverpool unlock opposition defences and kick-start their 2014-15 campaign.
The Brazil playmaker came off the bench to net a crucial goal in the Reds' 3-2 victory over Queens Park Rangers last weekend before turning in a promising display in Wednesday's loss to Real Madrid at Anfield.
Now, as Hull City prepare to come to town on Saturday, Coutinho has outlined why creating chances for his teammates and adding to his goal tally is a responsibility he'll relish over the coming weeks.
He told Liverpoolfc.com: "I've always felt confident. Football is a team game and everyone has their own responsibilities.
"My role encompasses creating goal-scoring opportunities and scoring goals myself. Many people may see it as a task of higher responsibility. However, I've always been ready and prepared for it."
Liverpool's summer transfer activity saw two new strikers added to the ranks in Mario Balotelli and Rickie Lambert, while Fabio Borini returned from a season-long loan at Sunderland.
Daniel Sturridge's injury has meant it's been very much a fresh-look forward line for the Reds for much of the campaign so far, but Coutinho insists hard work is going on behind the scenes at Melwood to help the new recruits start to fire.
"We've been getting to know each other little by little," he explained. "Each striker has their own style and training sessions help me understand how they prefer the ball to reach them. In my position, it's important that I create clear opportunities for them.
"I have to adapt my style to all strikers - as does any player who is in charge of playing in the No.10 role. We have to create open chances regardless of who the strikers are."
Coutinho was afforded a standing ovation by Liverpool fans for his efforts in the 3-0 reversal to Real at Anfield in midweek when he exited the field on 67 minutes to make way for Lazar Markovic.
Ultimately, the 22-year-old admits he cannot be satisfied given the nature of the result, but feels the youngsters within the squad can reap a long-term benefit from the experience of taking on the current European champions.
"It's difficult to say anything on a personal level when you lose the game," said Coutinho. "Football is a collective game and no individual performance really matters when the team don't win.
"The most important thing for me is that the team deliver and win games. We want to be performing well again soon and we must keep working hard to achieve that.
"I believe we can take positives from the first 20 minutes of the game. The match stayed under control in those 20 minutes as we were attacking and defending well. We should try and reproduce that throughout the 90 minutes in future games.
"Us players, especially the youngsters, can gain experience from games in these competitions as we'll be playing against and learning from the best footballers in the world. It's important for us to test ourselves against high-level sides."
Next up for Liverpool are Hull, who will journey to Anfield buoyed by their spirited 2-2 draw against Arsenal at the Emirates last weekend - a game in which they led twice.
But Coutinho is hopeful the Reds can strike it right and serve up the kind of showing that saw opposition teams blown away in front of the Kop last season.
He said: "We haven't had a good start to the current season. We all acknowledge the team are not currently in our best form.
"It's very important that we find the same tempo and intensity from last season and the Hull game will be an opportunity for us to show that we can have a solid and convincing performance.
"This game will be really important for us and everyone is focused on playing better and winning again. We're all concentrated on having a good display on Saturday.
"It would be important to have a run of games like last season's, when we won 11 consecutive matches, as this would give the squad confidence.
"Our first step to achieve that is by delivering good performances again - this is, in fact, the main thing and wins will come naturally when it happens, as they did last season."
